Hey Mr. Edwards put me on your show On the road to truth or consequences You put it on the map and now we all know where to go On the road to truth or consequences I got a name of a man that won't be anymore... Been thinking too loud and that's what the radio is for... Roads don't look back they only look away Truth and consequences may be one and the same Quiz me about the death that's on my hands... Quiz me about the life that's in my hands... Life is a desert and it ain't New Mexico... Everything must die so on with the show...

Black Monday 02:35
I put my money down on a black Monday On a black Monday and I lost it all Just a little house on the edge of town But the edge of town don’t like to take a fall Green, silver, copper, “In God We Trust” If we don’t rob the bank, the bank robs us Them big ol’ banks got their mouths full Got their mouths full and tellin’ me to leave But I’m gonna get what’s comin’ to me If it’s comin’ to me, before they get me Charlie’s got somethin’ like a two-barrel plan A two-barrel plan and the driver is me Now I’m parked thinking life is too damn short Too damn short and nothin’ is free

Scattered 03:46
Like falling leaves Or trash on the street Or thoughts that try to be words Like the minutes of today Or memories we’ve made Or feathers from birds Like those that I set free with love through grief Scattered, scattered, scattered like family From the stories of his youth Looking for truth The ones we won’t hear To casualties of war And footprints out my door I know he was just here Like the songs that I keep that you won’t hear me sing Scattered, oh scattered, scattered like family Tell me how are you going to live When the days are all like this Tell me where is a place to hide When everywhere is like some place inside There’s a mountain that I know And a river that flows In a box next to a photo I will climb and I will ache I will walk and I will wade Where ever you’ve gone I will follow Like those you set free with love through grief Scattered, oh scattered, scattered like family

Reward 05:27
Under a blood moon I found the trail Covered by sage brush and dust in an outline so frail With a wound that would heal in time They left a trace of the travails behind With a shirt full of smoke and hay I caught up with the outlaw the very next day I wasn’t what I was looking for Where is my reward Where is my reward Do I even care if I find it anymore Where is my reward Where is my reward On the banks of the river cool and calm I watch sunlight stay while the water moves on With a face on paper now on the wind I done fooled myself again I remember a time when you’d come to me With my love so bold and true you did believe Now I’m lost on a trail I’ve seen before Where is my reward

I hear someone in Reno must have crossed Cash He didn’t have a good reason to kill him like that But I got a good reason if you do that to her Even Johnny would agree you can be sure I will never hurt a woman But I might kill a man The world is dark these days with brightness here and there One minute you’ve got a life worth living the next you don’t care You can take it out at the bar or take it out on the highway If you take it out on her you will have Hell to pay
6.
Lawyer here has gotta be insane He’s telling me I should profit from my pain Profit from my pain Profit from my pain I’ll take the house you can have the land Lawyer’s telling me I should take what I can Take what I can while they toast our divorce Well they’re breathing down my neck I wish I could breathe down yours The kids will have to get over it They’ll understand I’m sure of it If not now they will some day Some day they will profit from this pain

Singing Low 03:24
Hey now Darlin’, where’s your love now? No one else's feels like home I’m sittin' here wonderin’ in these clouds If you can you hear me singing low I’m singing low in high country I’m singing low it takes the sadness from me If you're out there somewhere and thinking of me Know I'm singing low in high country One day we were laughing, laughing so sweetly And the next day it was just an echo What once was a mountain to you and me Now is a beautiful tombstone

No time like springtime to start living No time like April to start forgiving But every time you look at the news There’s another evil looking back at you No town like your hometown where you should feel safe Not even your hometown is free from hate From your school to mine Fell the seeds like those of Columbine Where do you go when the whole world wants to fight? And is there room for me there tonight? I don’t mean to push by being shoved What is spring without love? No time left for us now to say goodbye No time left on my heart to fight You can hear what you want to hear But let the sweet April sun dry your tears

Alaska 03:53
From all those mountains came that dust From all that dust came what must Play me in the key of C As if there were any other place to be I can no longer color this excuse Without the black and white spruce She said she knows where I've been Alaska how Alaska when What can I do with these thin walls When they don't keep out what's inside at all And all those ravens with their rhymes Just shake their heads and say it's all in mine For the Last Frontier fools the West Forgetting the last in our heads She said she'd be my friend in the end Alaska how Alaska when Who am I to feel this way We're just visiting with no place to stay And though I travel with a heavy heart I've packed so light I'm in the dark Until I found a candle and a map And I set free what was never trapped She said she knows what I got planned Alaska how Alaska when

Like the fate of every green leaf or a smile on New Year's Eve Like thoughts that try to be words Like the minutes of today or the memories that we've made Or feathers left behind by birds Oh scattered all around me Oh scattered like family From the stories of your youth looking for trains and looking for truth All the ones we will never hear To the casualties of love and war and the footprints outside of my front door I know you were just here I'll see you in mountains that I know and in a river that still flows And in sayings and houses still haunted And in every direction that I take I will sing my song for my own sake I know that's the least you would have wanted
11.
Well I won't sit here and tell you any lies We both know the truth everything dies But if we can't see eye to eye if we read into what was There's one thing out there that will out live love Hope hope dies last hopefully after our bitter past Hope hope dies last if you thought it was dead why did you ask There's a dog next door that barks way too much I guess some things in this world just live from their guts Cause they call the dog Hope and maybe you buy it There's a time for everything I will not deny it

Mercy 04:05
Who do you think you are to say that to me I can see you don’t know a thing about me Only seconds separate a calm breeze from a hurricane Only seconds to refrain someone please stop me Cause all else has failed All else has failed Mercy rock me mercy Mercy rock me tonight From out in the streets I’m blind-sided by a whisper for me Tempting me with fallacy I will resist To the end of the road to the stars to the edge of a note It’s just me and a ghost asking for this Cause all else has failed All else has failed Mercy rock me mercy Mercy rock me tonight

Last night I woke to music from records in a box upstairs The same records my father played at the end of a day unfair He’d play them while he built a fire then drift off in those songs Last night I was wide awake wishing I could put those records on As a child I often wondered where did all his troubles go Daddy built a fire a long time ago He handed down his gun and ax and he gave me my name Some things I wouldn’t be without his love and other things I am to blame My brother and I have wandered far but never far from home Daddy built a fire a long time ago Now tonight on the highway in December I’m miles from anywhere Most of the time all that I remember is how he saved me from despair There's a light ahead and a familiar song has come over my radio Daddy built a fire a long time ago Poem - Duende (hidden track) written by Marvin Aronson There's a tale to tell and it goes like this Deep down inside there dwells this ghost It's really abstract but man it's the most To capture this grace (or whatever it is) it's useless to try For one can destroy it by imparting a sigh It's beautiful to watch but more noble to possess Desire its glory for you know it's the best Now this one sought Duende he really was a fool He should have known better than to grab for this jewel I've got he cried and acted the king But this devil is hidden it's such a great thing Too short is this tale and really not nice But Duende pervades it and don't think twice Now grow in knowledge and cease your lust Duende may find you if that it must.
